The Kingston hockey community is mourning the loss of Mike Maurice, affectionately known as “Mo,” a former Kingston Canadians player who made a lasting impression both on and off the ice.
The Kingston Frontenacs announced the news with a heartfelt tribute, remembering Maurice as a beloved leader and respected member of the organization. He joined the Kingston Canadians during the 1984–85 season and spent three seasons with the franchise, establishing himself as an important presence during his time in Kingston.
Maurice’s impact can also be seen in the organization’s historical records. He played 147 regular-season games for Kingston, recording 79 goals and 83 assists for 162 points. He added another 31 points in 22 playoff appearances, numbers that place him among the notable offensive contributors in franchise history.
His postseason production remains particularly memorable. The Frontenacs’ all-time statistics rank Maurice seventh in playoff points, with 31, while his 20 playoff goals rank second among the organization’s players.
Following his Ontario Hockey League career, Maurice went on to enjoy a 13-year professional hockey career, carrying his passion for the game beyond his years in Kingston. His journey reflected the dedication and determination that had characterized his time with the Canadians.
For former teammates, supporters and members of the Frontenacs family, however, Maurice’s legacy extends beyond statistics. He is remembered as a teammate, leader and friend who made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
The Frontenacs expressed their love and deepest condolences to Maurice’s family, friends, former teammates and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
